Centrica Energy Sign £500K Hydrocarbon+ Support Deal with Amor Group
Amor Group has just been awarded a 5 year contract, worth £500k, to provide support for Centrica Energy Hydrocarbon Resource Limited (HRL) at its Barrow operation for their Gas Control System (GCS). GCS is based on our Hydrocarbon+ solution providing production reporting and hydrocarbon accounting for all of Centrica's Morecombe Bay assets.
HRL was an early adopter of our Hydrocarbon+ solution and we have rolled out numerous upgrades in line with our product roadmap and to meet with their changing business requirements since the first implementation. For this contract we will provide product maintenance and operational support on a 24/7/365 basis for the GCS and other associated systems.
GCS is deemed as a business critical system by HRL and as such they require a high performance support package. We have worked with HRL since 1999, and the quality and service level of support we have provided over this period has lead to this new 5 year commitment.
This contract consolidates our position with HRL at their Barrow operation, and puts us in an excellent position to further expand our solutions and services on site as their business changes in the coming years, and in the wider reaching Centrica Energy group.

Martin Says... "Process Safety Matters"
Here's how we've helped Scottish Power become leaders in the field of Process Safety
Working in the energy industry can be a dangerous job and when things go wrong, as they did on Transocean's Deepwater Horizon, the consequences can be fatal. Lessons learned from previous high profile incident on and offshore in the energy industry underline the fact that businesses in the sector need to be focusing on process safety.
As one of the UK's leading energy providers, ScottishPower were early in recognising the importance of process safety in utilities. After recent heavy investment in process safety research and development, the organisation are now widely recognised as process safety pioneers who are regularly being called upon by industry, both UK and abroad, to share their expertise in the process safety arena.
"Amor Group has played a vital role in supporting ScottishPower's drive to put process safety top of the agenda for energy businesses by providing top class consultancy and a bespoke process safety IT solution."
Martin Sedgwick, Head of Asset Management, ScottishPower
Our skills and expertise increase organisation's visibility of their process safety risk to enable them to carry out timely mitigatory action.
McAfee Update Meltdown
Thousands of Computers Disabled by Anti-virus Software
The last thing you expect is antivirus software to be the cause of a computing catastrophe. But that's exactly what happened last month to thousands of Windows XP users when a bug in a McAfee software update incorrectly identified an essential Windows file as a virus.
Damage was widespread and although the cause was quickly identified and a fix released, organisations around the globe experienced major and costly disruption that may have a negative impact on McAfee's reputation and bottom line. Now, imagine if you will the ensuing consequences had energy companies' process control systems been instantaneously disabled. At best processes would have to be shut down until the computers could be fixed, but at worst, suppose a safety critical system was impacted?
Energy companies are increasingly on the look out for secure measures to protect their control systems from viruses. Frequently their first thought is to use traditional anti-virus software but there is an alternative, which is more effective, less risky and has a lower total cost of ownership.
Application whitelisting offers a different approach to anti-virus software and CoreTrace's product, Bouncer performs particularly well in the process control systems space. Bouncer continuously protects against viruses without regular updates and prevents unauthorised installation of software by 'locking down' the system.
Amor Group can supply, install and configure Bouncer and to find out more about this Process Security Solution visit Bouncer, or email info@amorgroup.com
Passenger Terminal Trends
It was clear well in advance of Passenger Terminal Expo 2010 that the over-arching themes would be security and cost reduction. There were many vendors showcasing innovative technology solutions. However, those that provided a solution which assisted airport executives address these core themes were of most interest. Interest in passenger tracking solutions was high, and the only two serious contenders seemed to be Video and Bluetooth tracking solutions. It was clear from vendors that these two technologies utilised very different tracking methodologies.
General feedback from delegates was that Bluetooth tracking was the preferred option based on accuracy and unobtrusiveness. Amor Group has partnered with Blip systems to integrate their Bluetooth passenger tracking solution in to the PAXTrax+ solution, which has just been selected by Oslo Airport for roll our within their security operations.
The whole theme of passenger operations, and easing the flow of the passengers throughout the terminal process was clearly important to airport operators. This included more automated systems for gate and security access, as well as passenger operations management solutions. Amor Group's PAXPredict+ solution was seen to be somewhat unique in that it would allow airport executives to forecast passenger demand by modelling future and ''what if'' scenarios using historical data and rules from multiple systems including PAXTrax+.
Take part in our survey and webinar
The basis for this survey is that airport security must be able to respond to continuous changes in operational processes, whilst being challenged to reduce costs and do more with less. As an executive responsible for ensuring these demands are met, what is the greatest challenge facing you today? What measures are you taking to address them? Tell us at www.amorgroup.com/SOAR
A webinar to discuss the findings will be held on June 15th at 1pm GMT+1 in partnership with Rowan Fogarty of Syzrgy consulting. If you are interested in signing up email info@amorgroup.com
